COLCHESTER United's pre-season campaign kicked off with a bang at Heybridge Swifts, thanks to three first-half goals in a 3-0 victory.

The U's summer signings and triallists were to the fore. Former Charlton striker, Kevin Lisbie, impressed on trial, firing home the opening goal after just seven minutes.

It was then the turn of former Southend and Leyton Orient midfielder, Luke Guttridge, to celebrate his first goal in a U's shirt following his summer move. Guttridge rammed home the rebound after Clive Platt's initial shot had been blocked.

And it was Platt himself who grabbed the third goal in the 34th minute. Signed from MK Dons a few weeks ago, target man Platt headed home at the second attempt after good work by Kevin McLeod.

Triallist Bela Balogh, a Hungarian international centre-half, also caught the eye with a number of timely interceptions in the first half. Manager Geraint Williams fielded two completely different teams for each half.
