Colchester United has said it will be investigating reports its fans damaged the opponent’s stadium while watching the team play away at Leyton Orient on Saturday.

A club spokesman confirmed it had received complaints about the fans’ behaviour but had not been able to investigate the details fully. “It’s not something we would ever condone and our fans, in the main, are very well behaved,” he said.

A home fan has called for the U’s manager and director to apologise and offer compensation. “We might have expected this from ‘certain clubs’ but why did the Colchester fans do this in an even game which either side could have won?” they asked.
