Colchester United boss, John McGreal, was delighted with the way his side responded to the previous weekend’s 4-0 defeat at Carlisle, with a very important 1-0 win at promotion rivals MK Dons this afternoon.

Skipper Luke Prosser netted an early winner as the U’s became the first away team to win a league match at MK Dons this season.

The second-placed Dons had won eight and drawn three of their first league fixtures at home, but they were undone by the third-placed U’s.

It was an instinctive finish by Prosser, who showed his ingenuity to stick out a boot and divert Brennan Dickenson’s corner into the far corner of the net, from 12 yards out.

“It’s a good win, but it’s only three points, we must remember that,” explained McGreal.

“MK Dons are a good team, but then so are we a good team! We have effectively beaten the top-of-the-table today.

“We mustn’t get carried away, but the lads have put in a lot of hard work this week, after the Carlisle defeat, to get this result.

“We are up there with the best stats from scoring goals from set pieces, and that showed again today. We are a big team, with a lot of height, and getting a corner is an ideal opportunity to score.

“I’m happy for Luke (Prosser). Everyone was feeling down after last weekend’s defeat, but Luke was even more down, being the skipper.

“I thought our fans were also great today, We had a terrific following,” added McGreal.

Meanwhile, MK Dons boss Paul Tisdale admitted: “I’m disappointed with the way we played, but not that unhappy, because sometimes you have to give the opposition some credit.

“I thought Colchester did a good job on us. They managed to stop us playing.”
