Colchester United boss John McGreal was delighted with the away point after his side’s 1-1 draw at Tranmere Rovers this afternoon.

Midfielder Harry Pell netted a 61st minute equaliser for the battling U’s, after James Norwood had put Rovers ahead with his seventh goal of the season just before half-time.

McGreal said: “I thought we were well worthy of the 1-1 draw.

“I thought Tranmere were terrific for the first 20 minutes – they were right on it.

“We went with 3-5-2 formation, but we had to change it because Tranmere started well. We took the wind out of Tranmere’s sails.

“Their goal came at the wrong time for us, coming just before half-time.

“But I thought we set the tone in the second half, and I thought we were excellent with our possession and territory.

“When we went to a flat four, we killed the space for (striker) Norwood. Tranmere only had that opportunity in the second half.

“We knocked the wind out of their sails, because we had that Plan B in the locker room.

“The performance of the boys was excellent, with young Diaz Wright coming in for his proper start and doing really well.

“Dicko (Brennan Dickenson) played with a tight hamstring and we were missing Luke Prosser through suspension, and Brandon Comley on international duty. It was a great performance.

“Harry (Pell) ran everywhere. He was the captain and he got us the point,” added McGreal.

The U’s are well placed in fifth spot in League Two, after taking 12 points from their first six games.
