Kurtis Guthrie has NOT been ruled out for this weekend’s away test at struggling Crewe, despite suffering a nasty-looking ankle injury at Carlisle last Saturday.

Guthrie sat out the midweek 2-1 home win over Coventry City, during which fellow strikers Junior Ogedi-Uzokwe and Mikael Mandron both scored to propel the U’s to within three points of the League Two play-offs.

“Kurtis is coming along OK,” revealed U’s boss John McGreal at this lunchtime’s press conference ahead of the trip to Gresty Road.

“He’s not done anything at the moment, but he is progressing well and he will be assessed over the next 48 hours. It’s another ankle injury, but a fresh one and only an impact one. He will be assessed,” added McGreal.

Guthrie missed the best part of 10 months with a long-term ankle problem, from March last year, and has to date started just five games this season. A late decision will be made on whether or not to include him in this weekend’s squad.
