SUFFOLK FA has taken the unusual step of publicly congratulating members clubs for their national success.

Martin Head, Suffolk FA chief executive, said: “The county would like to congratulate AFC Sudbury and Bury Town on their achievements in the FA Trophy and also acknowledge the fantastic FA Cup run enjoyed by Leiston.

“For a Step Five club to have got that close to an FA Cup second round proper match against Football League opposition was a great achievement, and one that all involved at the club can be very proud of.

“In addition to Sudbury and Bury in the Trophy, we hope for success and offer our best wishes to the three Suffolk clubs left in the FA Vase - Lowestoft Town, Leiston and Needham Market.”

AFC Sudbury beat Blue Square South Weston Super Mare (two leagues higher than them) in last Saturday's FA Trophy game and will now entertain Blue Square Premier Oxford United in the first round proper on December 13.

Fellow British Gas Business League Midlands Division side Bury Town also beat Blue Square South opposition in Hampton and Richmond.

They now meet Havant and Waterlooville, who are lower in the Blue Square South than Hampton.
