GREAT BRITAIN Olympic medal hopes Tom Daley and Pete Waterfield missed out on the medals, despite facing a second-string China team, on the opening day of the World Series in Moscow.

The duo, performing in the platform synchro, put in a performance littered with errors and were never likely to replicate silver medal they won in the second leg of the series in Beijing last month.

Instead the British pair had to be content with fifth place after obtaining a score of 429.39 as Germany’s Sascha Klein and Patrick Hausding won the day.

China had won every gold going at the first two World Series events but second-choice pairing Lin Yue and Yuo Liang did not even to make the podium, finishing in fourth.
