LAWRENCE Dodd, the former Suffolk county player from Bury St Edmunds, is due to play his second PGA European Tour event in the Joburg Open at the Royal Johannesburg and Kensington Golf Club starting on Thursday.

LAWRENCE Dodd, the former Suffolk county player from Bury St Edmunds, is due to play his second PGA European Tour event in the Joburg Open at the Royal Johannesburg and Kensington Golf Club starting on Thursday.

Ryder Cup player Darren Clarke and Charl Schwartzel, one of the leading South Africans, are the best known players in the field. The rest of the home country's challenge includes Richard Sterne and three players who have played in PGA Europro events in Suffolk in recent years - Thomas Aiken, Michiel Bothma and Gerlou Roux.

Andrew Marshall of Norfolk and two Essex players, Philip Golding and Rob Coles, are entered with a host of players who have progressed their careers via the elite squad of the English Golf Union.

Ross McGowan, Paul Waring, Gary Lockerbie, Adam Gee, Robert Dinwiddie and Gary Boyd are all qualified. Steve Lewton and David Horsey have accepted invitations.
