Essex cycling star Alex Dowsett has confirmed that he will ride in this year’s Tour of Britain.

Four-time British Time Trial champion Dowsett will be part of the Movistar Team in the eight day race.

The Maldon rider will be in action on home turf too, with a 10-mile individual time trial in Essex on Stage Five – Thursday September 7 – which takes place in Clacton.

The following day the race comes to Suffolk, with a stage between Newmarket and Aldeburgh.

As well as his domestic time trial crowns, Dowsett boasts a stage win in a time trial in the Giro d’Italia back in 2013, won Commonwealth Games gold in 2014 and held the world hour record in 2015.

He said: “I’m very excited to be returning to the Tour of Britain again, this year’s route looks pretty good for me and unsurprisingly I’m very excited for a 10 in Essex!

“Movistar will be a force to be reckoned with again this year I’m sure.”

Dowsett joins a list of star names in the race which includes World Time Trial champion Tony Martin and Team Sky’s Michal Kwiatkowski, who will both be in contention for the individual time trial honours in Tendring on Stage Five.
