FELIXSTOWE United manager Ian Watson believes his side have recovered from a “bad patch” despite losing their last match 4-1.

United had lost three out of their six Touchline SIL Senior Division games immediately prior to being knocked out of the Suffolk Senior Cup.

But while disappointed to lose 4-1 at Newmarket Town a fortnight ago, Watson was pleased with the way his side acquitted themselves against their opponents, who are now sitting top of the Thurlow Nunn League Division One table.

Watson said: “We are very happy with the way the season has gone. We did hit a bad patch, but we have hopefully turned the corner.

“It was disappointing to go out of the Suffolk Senior Cup, especially after reaching the semi-finals last season.

“If we had scored a second goal after we equalised in the second half we felt we would have gone on to win the game, but we didn’t and they scored three goals late on.

“However, we received some good feedback from Newmarket about our performance.

“We didn’t play last weekend, but hopefully we will carry on where we left off at Newmarket and bounce back this weekend.”

Tomorrow sees third-placed Felixstowe travel to new Senior Division leaders Wickham Market.

Watson, whose assistant manager is Terry Rumens, said: “They are going very well. We beat them 1-0 at home, although a draw would have been a fair result for them.”

Felixstowe will again be without Matt Morgan, the leading scorer in the Senior Division last season, who so far has been out for a month with a broken wrist but will hopefully return in two weeks’ time.

In his absence Tye Webb, Liam Hunn and Travis Smith have stepped up to the plate this season.

“Tye Webb, who I have always thought is capable of playing at a higher level, has been outstanding for us.

“Liam Hunn was our best player early in the season, but then had an injury and found himself on the bench.

“But he came on and scored the winning goal against Achilles and also scored twice against Coplestonians as we won 3-2 after being 2-0 down.

“Travis Smith is a young player who has had to bide his time. He was left out at Newmarket, but had been playing well up till then.

“We have got a very good squad this season and we have to make sure we keep everyone happy, but it is good those players want to come to us,” added Watson.
