Beware the wounded animal.

That is the message from Felixstowe & Walton Player/assistant manager Danny Bloomfield as the Seasiders prepare to be reunited with Newmarket Town, in the Thurlow Nunn Premier Division, tomorrow.

Felixstowe prevailed 2-0 in the Suffolk Premier Cup a month ago, but it was the manner of the performance that delighted the home fans and will have left the visitors smarting, explained Bloomfield, who has scored twice in seven games this season.

“While we did not win that game convincingly, Newmarket will have learned a lot from that first half,” said the Seasiders’ number two.

“They got a bit of the runaround in the first half and they will be coming out of that dressing room all guns blazing.

“The last thing you want as a player is to be made to look a bit silly and I am sure there were a few choice words said at half-time, because they got back into the game in the second period.

“I am an older player and I would not forget a first half like that. What we have to do now is to put in that same level of performance again when they are expecting it.”

The Seasiders go into the game at the Goldstar Ground having taken 23 points from a possible last 30 on offer, but face a Newmarket side with just one defeat to their name this season.

Bloomfield admits Felixstowe are not yet playing to their full potential but insists the title race is not yet over, despite leaders Norwich United being nine points clear of second place and 13 points ahead of the Seasiders.

“We had a bit of a shaky start and it’s taken us a little time to gel and play together as a team,” added Bloomfield.

“Progression has been steady and we are moving in the right direction, but there is still plenty of work to do.

“Norwich are in a good position but there is still a long way to go and anything can still happen.

“They have had a great start but it only takes a spell of three or four games to slip-up, like Hadleigh did last season.

“They were cruising but maybe the pressure got to them.

“There are still enough games for us to catch them and they may be hit by injuries or suspensions, or may have players that want to go and play at a higher level or become available for a few games. Anything like that can happen in this league.”

The Seasiders won last time out in the league, 4-0 at Mildenhall Town, and new signing Danny Thrower, who has re-joined the club from league rivals, Whitton, was among the scorers.

“Everyone knows what he (Thrower) is about and there is no-one better technically in this league, the next league above, or maybe even the one above that.

“We have got to make sure we keep him engaged and enthusiastic and an integral part of the team

“What we don’t want to do is become a one-man team and Danny is just one piece of the jigsaw.

“He knows a lot of the boys at the club, so has fitted in quickly – like he has never been away.”
