FINIDI George's proposed move to Fenerbahce has fallen through although the Nigerian is still hoping to be fixed up with a new club by the time the transfer window closes, writes Derek Davis.

German agent Gerd Burzeck, who has been brokering deals for the Turkish club, last night admitted: “The negotiations are over and Fenerbahce are no longer interested.

“He is someone they thought about but there is no deal. It is possible something could happen by the end of the month but very unlikely.”

George is close to agreeing a settlement on the remaining 30 months of his contract with Ipswich Town and is believed to favour a return to Spain where his pregnant girlfriend awaits him.

The Nigerian international is also being closely monitored by other clubs on the continent where the chance of regular football and a more settled personal life could make him happier.

A £3.1m buy from Real Mallorca, George has had an up-and-down time at Portman Road and, after being given a free transfer in the summer, has also been told by Joe Royle that he doesn't figure in his plans.

* Town youngsters Lee Beevers and Steve Burton have been told that their contracts will not be renewed at the end of the season and are free to look for other clubs.

Burton had a loan spell with Boston United earlier in the season while Beevers has been a regular in the Blues' reserves but both have failed to push into the first-team squad.
