Glemsford & Cavendish 2 Sudbury Athletic 3

The game started very scrappily, with both sides finding it difficult to play any neat football as both sides are used to.

G&C took an early lead when from a deep Dean Stalker free kick the ball somehow found its way into the goal.

This seemed to wake Athletic up and they were now playing some good football. Athletic started to create a few chances but for some good defending from stalker and Goff looking solid in goal, they were frustrating the Athletic attack. Glitz went on a mazy run and fired just over, and after some more pressure and just before half-time they equalised when Twyman laid in Steve Day to slot home.

In a second half full of incident Athletic came out looking for an early goal and came close after Twyman broke away down the right and delivered a great cross for Jordon to have his powerful header saved by Goff. Athletic soon increased the lead when Twyman flicked on for Glitz to run through and coolly lob Goff.

G&C were looking to get back in the game with Baxter trying to pull their strings but Athletic's Evers, having an excellent game, broke up most of their play. Both teams were reduced to ten men when an ugly tackle on Baxter from McMahon saw him get a straight red card and then G&C's Bull getting his marching orders for retaliation.

With 15 min utes to go Twyman picked the ball up, jinked past two defenders and hit a fierce shot into the bottom corner to make it 3-1.

G&C pulled a goal back late on after St Ledger misjudged a long-range effort and could only push it onto the crossbar for Hurst to fire home the rebound.
