This derby clash between two struggling team produced an entertaining match for the handful of spectators. Within minutes of the start Melford could have been two goals to the good but the speedy Perry put his efforts wide. It was the visitors who took the lead on 12 minutes a good run by HARRINGTON took him into the box to place the ball wide of St Ledger in the Melford goal. The home team levelled sixteen minutes later when the excellent PERRY jinked past three defenders to put the ball wide of keeper Roberts. In another Melford period of pressure Perry headed against the bar and Fisher put his drive inches wide. Just on the halftime whistle Melford went ahead when FISHER found space and cracked the ball home from twenty yards. From the interval kick off Cornard levelled Cribbs made a fine run down the right flank and his his cross found TOMKINS who sidefooted home. Still Melford attacked and Cornard man of the match keeper Roberts made a series of fine saves. The visiting keeper kicked from hand outside the box, and to the credit of visiting linesman and Manager Trevor Irvine this was flagged to the attention of the referee, and from the resultant free kick PERRY slotted home just inside the post and still managed a somersault in celebration! At the other end St Ledger saved well from Cribbs as Cornard tried to get back on level terms. Again keeper Roberts made two excellent saves from Perry, but four minutes before the end could nothing to save a 20 yard lob from the impressive FISHER which caught him off his line. Some welcome respite for the Stoneylanders from the gloomy cloud of despair of the last few weeks. that has prevailed over the Club. MELFORD St. Ledger, Cook, Bartlett, Hynard, (83) M.
