In an entertaining game Athletic made a great start and produced their best football of the season in the first half. Athletic's front three of Steve Glitz, Danny Twyman and Mark Adams, caused the Lawford defence problems all afternoon and soon took the lead when glitz went on a fine run and was pulled down in the area, Twyman coolly slotted home the penalty.

In an entertaining game Athletic made a great start and produced their best football of the season in the first half. Athletic's front three of Steve Glitz, Danny Twyman and Mark Adams, caused the Lawford defence problems all afternoon and soon took the lead when glitz went on a fine run and was pulled down in the area, Twyman coolly slotted home the penalty. Shortly afterwards they went 2-0 up, when the dangerous Adams picked up the ball, took it past two defenders and fired past the keeper. It was Adams again who was pulled down in the area by the keeper for the referee to award another penalty: this time the keeper saving Twyman's kick but the forward scoring from the rebound.
The second half started at frantic pace and Lawford pulled a goal back through Marks. Athletic soon increased their lead through Glitz only for Lawford to pull two back to make the score 4-3. Owen found Jordon Twyman who netted Athletic's fifth with a great strike that went in off the post. Soon after, Steve Day made it six but with minutes left Lawford scored the final goal of the game.
