The curtain comes down in style on another season of motor racing at Foxhall Stadium this weekend with the 2017 Whip St Motors Bangers Championship of the World, writes Dean Cox.

The pits will be full to bursting with, at time of press, some 270 bangers featuring drivers from East Anglia to Cornwall, the South Coast to Cumbria and everywhere in between – with some even travelling from as far as Scotland and Ireland just to take part.

The huge grid will line up on Saturday night for the biggest and most rewarding Banger race anywhere for the title of world champion and the right to boast the coveted gold roof on their car for the coming twelve months.

In addition to the World Final there are also three races at the start of the meeting, a last chance saloon for any driver who hasn’t qualified as yet, to get themselves into the big race.

These will be winner takes all events, with the victor in each race taking their place at the back of the World Final grid.

Lee Strudwick is defending champion and stands as good a chance as any to defend his title but will no doubt be a marked man come the opening laps of the big race.

Local hopes will rest with Kesgrave’s Julian Beaumont and Steve Saw and Woodbridge’s Craig Thurlow and Jake Stewart, while Saxmundham’s Nikki Jarvis is also a very strong local contender along with fellow Suffolk racers Michael and Martin Kent.

After a new world champion has been crowned there will be even more carnage with the two Allcomers races, where there is nothing to play for but pride, and the drivers can simply enjoy wrecking their cars.

And then if there is anything still moving at the end of the night, it is a last car moving wins Destruction Derby.

Racing starts at 5pm, with turnstiles open at 4pm.
