Ipswich Town lost 4-1 at Fulham this evening. Andy Warren hands out his player grades.
Bartosz Bialkowski
Saved well from Aboubakar Kamara early on and produced a number of other saves which kept the score down. Could maybe have done better with the first Fulham goal. 6
Jordan Spence
Defended well in the first half before being given a straight red in the second after a late barge on Kamara. The Fulham man made the most of it, that’s for sure, as he rolled around on the turf. But Spence should not have given him the chance and his actions cost his side dear. 4
Luke Chambers
Had his hands full with Kamara in the first half and coped well but, in the second once the Blues were down to 10 men, he and his defence were ripped apart. 5
Tommy Smith
Making just his third start of the season and, on the whole dealt well with the Fulham onslaught in the early stages but, like the rest of the defence, simply couldn’t cope in the second half once down to 10 men. 5
Jonas Knudsen
Had his mind firmly on defending, rather than trying to get forwards as he has so often in recent weeks. He could perhaps have done more to keep Sessegnon’s equaliser out while on the line. 6
Callum Connolly
The Everton loanee battled away, like he always does, but was unable to overly exert himself on the contest. Left the game early but is not thought to be an injury worry. 6
Cole Skuse
Played within himself on his return from injury, but his calm presence was still felt in the middle of the Blues midfield. The breaking, forward runs were not there on this occasion, but the solid positional play was before the game got away from the Blues. 6
Grant Ward
Got up and down the touchline well before being forced off with an injury. Contributed in all three thirds of the field. 6
Martyn Waghorn
His set-piece delivery came up trumps yet again in the closing stages as his whipped ball was headed home by Joe Garner, but he had little other impact. 6
Bersant Celina
Saw little of the ball as the Blues held on in the first half and was the man sacrificed following the red card given to Jordan Spence. 6
Joe Garner
Once again showed his commitment as he threw his head into a crowd of bodies to head Waghorn’s cross into the back of the net. Sadly, his effort proved nothing more than a consolation when it could have been so much more. 7
Freddie Sears (for Ward 44)
Came on and put in his usual shift without being able to impact the game in the final third. 6
Dominic Iorfa (for Celina, 57)
Was the man sent on following Spence’s red card in a bid to hold onto the lead but couldn’t help as the Blues were ripped apart. 6
Luke Hyam (for Connolly, 82)
Great to see him back on a football pitch as a late substitute. 6
