AFTER last week’s humbling at Godmanchester this was a magnificent result for Wivenhoe who turned in a committed, battling performance to overcome fellow strugglers Diss.

The Dragons went ahead on the quarter hour. Worren Raphael played the ball inside to Ray Catchpole on the right and his cross to the near post was met by Marley Spindler, who fired home.

Wivenhoe doubled their lead on 63 minutes with a sublime passing move. Luke Payne and Spindler combined to send Lewis Blanchett into the box and he cut the ball back to Ryan Brown, who nonchalantly scored from 10 yards.

The Dragons wrapped up the points in the 85th minute. Catchpole found Payne who played a through ball for Spindler to chase, and he eventually sent the ball into the net.

It was a fine win for the Dragons and no less than they deserved after a torrid few weeks.
