The bright Blades dominated possession in the first half, but Town keeper Bartosz Bialkowski didn’t have to make a save of note and both David McGoldrick and Martyn Waghorn had chances for the visitors.

Chris Basham broke the deadlock with a 49th minute header after Town switched off after the break.

Both teams then hit the bar – Waghorn for Town and Leon Clarke for the hosts – but there were few other chances in a more scrappy second period.
