The annual competitions are underway at Sudbury Indoor Bowls Club, in Quay Lane, with the 2 Wood Singles enjoying a bumper entry of 32 players this year.
Rink Two produced some memorable matches with a string of close games. Jane Watson battled with Tony Johnson and it came down to a nail-biting last end shoot-out, Watson winning by one.
Susan Monkman played Mark Wickendens on the same rink, and there was only two points in it going into the last end. Monkman gained 2 shots to take the game.
Last year’s finalist, Brian Stack, won through to the semis and on rink Two met Graham Rowland. This game went to an extra end with Rowland taking it by one shot. The undoubted star was Graham Gilbert, who reached the semi-final by winning three rounds to then meet one of the top men in the club, Colin Tuxworth. Gilbert narrowly went down 11-14. The final between Rowland and Tuxworth will be played on March 31/April 1.
