FORMER Ipswich Town reserve player Peter Grant is the new manager of Ridgeons League Premier Division newcomers Hadleigh United.

Grant, who was assistant to Mel Aldis at Debenham Leisure Centre, was last night confirmed as the manager at the Millfield following the departure of Steve Jay two weeks before the start of the new season.

Grant, who used to play for Hadleigh, will have Gary Thompson as his assistant.

Thompson, who was manager at Whitton United last season before leaving to join Tiptree, was to be assistant manager at Ipswich Wanderers this season.

However, his departure along with manager Steve Buckle, who is expected to be confirmed as assistant to Mark Scopes at Woodbridge Town, will cast a cloud over the immediate future of the Humber Doucy Lane club.
