Grasshoppers' first team played host to a youthful Lowestoft in the opening match of the season.

Without their usual goalkeeper the home side knew this was going to be a difficult game.

From the start Grasshoppers pressed hard with captain Kelly Rodwell quickly shutting down any Lowestoft advances and re-distributing the ball well.

With the home side firmly camped in the attacking end it was not long before the chances started, Liz Palmer and Wendy Dix were close on several occasions, but the Lowestoft goalie was proving to be a tough cookie.

Halfway through the first half the defence crumbled and Julia Grant got the goals rolling. Grant went on to score five of the six goals, with Dix sneaking in one from a Palmer cross.

Grasshoppers' second team were not so lucky away at Lowestoft. Even though losing 8-0 the visitors gave 110% and with only nine players they can at least say that they did their best under the circumstances.

Captain Lucy Elsdon said she was pleased with the teams efforts and the new members did well despite being thrown into the deep end.
