GREAT Britain edged a thrilling game against Angola in their first match of the London Handball Cup, in Stratford yesterday, emerging 22-20 winners.

The game was being held as part of the preparations for next year’s Games and the hosts took the honours, scoring two late goals against the 2011 African Games champions.

Six nations are taking part in the London Handball Cup as the venue is tested ahead of next summer’s Games and there was local interest as Ipswich’s Louise Jukes featured for the home side.

“It was a great performance in a great arena, so it’s been a good day for us,” GB coach Jesper Holmris said.

In the other game played yesterday, China defeated Slovakia 28-26.
