HADLEIGH United’s new-look side defeated a youthful Chelmsford City 4-1 in Saturday’s pre-season friendly at the Millfield.
The home team took the lead on the half-hour when trialist Blair Hammond turned smartly in the box to shoot low into the net. Hadleigh doubled their advantage five minutes later when Warren Taylor-Holt shot across the keeper after running on to a superb defence-splitting pass by another trialist, Lee Owen.
Chelmsford’s Mark Crick, whose earlier brilliantly-struck volley was just wide of the far post, saw his effort turned around the post by substitute keeper Fred Howe just before half time.
Craig Payne stroked home Hadleigh’s third before Liam Jennings played in Bean Deacon, another trialist, to round the keeper for the fourth.
The lively Daniel Lopez pulled a consolation goal back for Chelmsford, whose side were all aged between 16 and 19, in the closing stages with a well-struck shot.
