He thinks Manchester City's Brazilian playmaker will adjust to life better in Italy than England and enjoy Serie A football far more.
City will also recoup the cash they splashed on Elano in August 2007.
He has impressed in patches but has struggled to adapt to the rigours of the Premier League.
Elano, 27, still has two years left on his contract but has been forced to adopt a new role on the left wing in Mark Hughes' side and may relish a fresh start under Mourinho at the San Siro.
Inter clinched the Italian title and will be playing Champions League football next season whereas City failed even to finish seventh and missed out on a place in the Europa League.
Elano has impressed Mourinho with his eye for spectacular goals and his versatility.
