Division Two North

Ipswich East Suffolk 1 Norwich City II 2

IES again came down to earth with a bump as they lost this local rivalry match by a single goal. Going into the game short of the midfield duo of Borwick and Aveling, IES started well but played into the hands of their stout opponents. The visitors took the lead following a mix up between IES keeper Lane and centre back Brown, and the Norwich City forward scooped the ball in from two yards. More mishaps were to follow as Norwich doubled their advantage from penalty corner, with a basic slip manoeuvre resulting in a simple shot that Lane failed to save. Danny Mayhew being yellow carded for ten minutes for verbal did not help IES' comeback. 2 nil at half time and Mayhew called for calm and discipline. IES were the better team in the 2nd half, creating numerous chances, mainly from penalty corners but all were dealt with by the Norwich keeper. David Taylor did score a consolation mid way through the half with a neat deflection but IES could not break down a back 11 from Norwich. On Saturday IES face the unpredictable Cambridge University at Tuddenham Road, 12pm.
