Saturday’s visitors to Portman Road may be enjoying a rich vein of results, but Bolton Wanderers must be aware that the Blues are no fans of the Championship form book.

Dougie Freedman’s team have won their last five games, are unbeaten in eight and have given themselves a fighting chance of reaching the play-offs, having been out of the promotion picture for so long.

However, Mick McCarthy’s men are no respecters of reputation and have proved on several occasions this season that they can root out a result when it is least expected.

Wanderers were on a decent run of form prior to the teams’ clash at the Reebok Stadium – having not lost in six – but Town grabbed a 2-1 win, thanks to goals from DJ Campbell and Michael Chopra.

Millwall visited Portman Road, level with the play-off places but out of the top-six on goal difference, thanks to an unbeaten run of 13 games, which included seven wins and six draws.

However Town, showing shoots of recovery under McCarthy, romped to a 3-0 home win, Campbell grabbing a brace and Daryl Murphy also on target.

Nottingham Forest had suffered just one defeat in 10 before their November meeting at Portman Road, but Luke Hyam and Guirane N’Daw were among the scorers in a 3-1 win.

Burnley, meanwhile, had taken 12 points from a possible 15 prior to their 2-1 reverse in Suffolk.

But arguably the most impressive result came at the Cardiff City Stadium, when Town battled to a 0-0 draw against the league leaders.

Prior to the game, the Bluebirds had picked up 36 points from a possible 39 available, Peterborough being the only team to dent the hosts’ promotion aspirations.

The Blues worsened that record to 37 from a possible 42 and in doing so, became the first team to stop Malky Mackay’s team from scoring on their home patch this season.

With nine Championship games left to play and the Blues just four points clear of the relegation zone, it’s time for Town to ruin accumulators up and down the land again and grab a crucial victory against the odds.

Wanderers have been warned.
