IPSWICH Town have signed experienced right-back Bradley Orr on loan from Blackburn.

The 30-year-old – who was in the Rovers side that drew with Blues at Portman Road on the first day of this season – put pen-to-paper on the deal that will keep him at the club until January 26 this morning.

Carlos Edwards was Town’s right-back during Paul Jewell’s managerial regime, but the skipper was moved back to the right-wing role he played earlier in career by new boss Mick McCarthy for last weekend’s 2-1 home win over Burnley.

Luke Chambers switched from centre-back to right-back for that game, but it looks as though Orr will now fulfil that position. Tommy Smith came back in to the side to play centre-back last weekend, but is set to skipper New Zealand in China tonight ahead of the Blues’ trip to Leicester on Saturday.

“There were a few things going on in the upper echelons of the club at Blackburn and I wanted to get out on loan,” said Orr.

“Once I heard of Ipswich’s interest I was really keen to come down here. Thankfully we’ve managed to get something sorted and I’m absolutely delighted to be here.

“I know Ipswich well from playing here a number of times in the past and I know that the Club is steeped in history. It’s a big Club and it’s an honour to be here.”

Orr becomes Mick McCarthy’s second signing as Blues boss following the arrival of Kelly Youga yesterday. The 27-year-old former Charlton left-back signed a short-term deal yesterday.

Town now have five domestic loanees in the form of Stephen Henderson (West Ham), Orr (Blackburn), Danny Higginbotham (Stoke), Bilel Mohsni (Southend) and DJ Campbell (QPR), with Richie Wellens and Massimo Luongo having returned to parent clubs Leicester and Tottenham repsectively over the last week.

Championship clubs can name only five domestic loanees in their matchday squad, but McCarthy could still add one more before next Friday’s loan deadline. Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Frimpong is understood to be among his targets.

Guirane N’Daw (St Etienne) and Daryl Murphy (Celtic) are also on loan with the Blues, but are classed as international loans.
