DARYL Murphy hopes his new Ipswich Town strike partner DJ Campbell will stick around at Portman Road.

The latter has scored four goals in seven games – including a sublime late winner against Burnley on Saturday – to help lift the Blues off the bottom of the Championship table.

Whether the loanee stays beyond the start the of the New Year depends on whether parent club QPR – the team he grew up supporting as a boy – want him back for a Premier League relegation battle.

“He’s a poacher isn’t he?” said Celtic loanee Murphy, who also scored on Saturday and has shown signs of forging a good partnership with Campbell in recent games.

“DJ’s a great little player. I played against him when I was at Sunderland and he was at Brentford. He scored two goals against us that day, was a real handful, got his move off the back off that game and has never really looked back.

“He’s just what you need in and around the box. He’s always on the move and I thought his goal (on Saturday) was brilliant. We’ve linked up well and created a few half chances.

“You want players like that to stay. Not only is a great player to have on the pitch, he’s a great character to have around the training ground too.”

With the ‘emergency’ loan window open until next Friday, new Blues boss Mick McCarthy is currently looking to add to his squad following the return of midfield loan duo Massimo Luongo (Tottenham) and Richie Wellens (Leicester) to their parent clubs.

The latter – sent to Portman Road to get fit following a long-term knee injury – is set to return to an inexperienced Foxes midfield following a four-game winless streak for the previously high-flying club and he could feature against Ipswich at The King Power Stadium on Saturday.

One potential replacement is Arsenal’s Emmanuel Frimpong who has tweeted to say he will be joining a club this week. Wolves boss Stale Solbakken wants to bring him back to Molineux, but the 20-year-old midfielder is believed to be a big admirer of McCarthy.
