BRADLEY Orr might have been brought in to help bring experience and leadership to the Blues’ back-line.

But it hasn’t stopped him salivating at the prospect of his new club’s attacking options as Town look to continue Mick McCarthy’s encouraging start in charge at Leicester City tomorrow.

DJ Campbell is the man of the moment after scoring four times in his first seven matches during his own loan spell.

This has pushed last season’s top scorer Michael Chopra to the sidelines – the Blues number 10 is still waiting for his first competitive minutes under McCarthy.

But as both goal-getters vie for a place alongside the physical Daryl Murphy, Orr believes it just highlights Town’s strength-in-depth.

The 30-year-old right-back, who has played with both frontmen in the past, said: “You can’t not like DJ. We were together at QPR and he’s a top lad and great around the place. As Ipswich fans have seen in the last couple of weeks, he will always be a threat.

“I also came through the ranks at Newcastle with Chops. If you get his head right, I don’t think there is anyone better at this level.

“His goalscoring record will show you that and he has gone for big-money moves in the past. Hopefully he can play a big part between now and the end of the season.

“It is brilliant to have them both and you can go beyond that with big Murph (Daryl Murphy), Scottie (Jason Scotland) and Jay Emmanuel-Thomas. There is real good competition for places.”

Orr has declared himself match-fit for tomorrow’s match – his last game was just three weeks ago for Blackburn – and he is itching to make an immediate impact for his new club.

He added: “You have a look at the squad and it is fantastic on paper. I can’t talk about the time before (under Paul Jewell), but you now have a manager who has been very successful at this level, the level above and also on the international stage.

“The atmosphere around the place is very good and the enthusiasm from the lads in training is there in abundance.

“For me, it is exciting. Besides playing for a really good club like Ipswich, it is a chance to be part of a hopeful rise up the table.”
