JIM Magilton faces a race against time to land at least two of the players he is looking to sign.

The Blues boss has less than five full days left before the transfer window closes at midnight on Monday, September 1.

Rule changes mean he has to get any loan deals with Premier League players done in that time as well as permanent moves, although he can take players on a temporary basis from the Football League until November.

The nearest Magilton is to landing a new player is Moritz Volz who has completed a medical and the final bits of the loan deal should be completed this morning, although as the EADT reported, Town had hoped things would have been tied up last Monday.

Although it is just a season-long loan deal the Blues will still have to pay a fee to Fulham to secure the player, but it won't be as much as the £500,000 first quoted.

Clinching former Schalke 04 and Arsenal defender Volz would end Town's interest in former Spurs full back Stephen Carr who is a free agent after leaving Newcastle United.
