ROY Keane this morning admitted that no new signings were on the horizon for Ipswich Town.

Keane revealed that he had identified two new players he wanted at Portman Road before the start of next season, and although he had spoken with the duo and they had been keen to come, no deals could be struck.

“There’s been very little progress in terms of any new signings,” confessed Keane.

I spoke to two players that were keen to come here, but we couldn’t do the deals. It’s my job to identify the players and to speak to them, but I then take a back-seat.

“It’s frustrating and disappointing, but there’s no anger,” added Keane.

Town boss Keane is believed to have been tracking Cardiff City hot-shot Michael Chopra this summer, while he was also reported to be targeting Crystal Palace midfielder Shaun Derry, who has since signed for QPR.

Keane spoke as players returned for the start of pre-season training.

Among those at Playford Road were Argentine midfielder Luca Civelli, out-of-favour striker Kevin Lisbie and Jon Stead.
