IPSWICH Town Chief Executive Simon Clegg has declared the club record sale of Connor Wickham to Sunderland as “an historic day” for the club.

IPSWICH Town Chief Executive Simon Clegg has declared the club record sale of Connor Wickham to Sunderland as “an historic day” for the club.

Wickham this afternoon completed his move to the Black Cats, for a deal set to rise to �12million based on various clauses. Town will receive an intial down payment of �8.1m.

Speaking today, Clegg enthused: “It’s an historic day for the football club, in terms of the record breaking transfer deal that we have been able to conclude.

“It’s tinged with a degree of sadness, that we are losing one of our home-grown talents, but it’s fantastic to see him moving onto Premier League football.”
