Former Blues defender Ibrahima Sonko has joined Ipswich’s Championship rivals Barnsley on trial.

The powerful Senegalese defender, who made 22 appearances for Paul Jewell’s team last season, featured in the South Yorkshire side’s 1-0 away defeat at League Two side Crewe Alexandra on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, ex-Town full-back Callum Bennett, who turned down the offer of a one-year contract at Portman Road in April, played for a youthful Doncaster Rovers side on the same evening but was on the wrong side of a 4-0 defeat as Blue Square Bet North team Gainsborough Trinity ran out easy winners.

Bennett has been linked with Championship sides Nottingham Forest and Sheffield Wednesday.
