TO make it an almost perfect weekend for Town fans, Ipswich's Under 18s and Under 16s beat East Anglian counterparts Norwich City on Saturday at Playford Road.
Blues striker Jordan Rhodes, who scored in the 3-2 win for the older lads, is being chased by Brentford boss Terry Butcher who wants to take him on loan.
Rhodes swept home a Jack Ainsley flick after just 15 seconds set the Blues on their way.
Curt Robinson doubled the lead in the 28th minute from close range.
The Canaries emerged after the break in determined mood and Paul McLean put them back in the game with a diving header from a corner.
It was a tense second half for the Blues before Liam Barrett clinched the points with a few minutes left.
There was still time for a consolation goal for City scored by Jordan Yong.
Tommy Smith and Paul Watson were outstanding in the heart of the Ipswich defence.
Team: Plummer, Clemo, Robinson, Williams, Watson, Smith, Upson, Reason, Ainsley, Rhodes, Murphy. Subs: Lambe, Ward, Barrett, Calver, Hyam
The U16's continued their amazing run with their ninth straight win beating City 5-1. Scorers were Murray 2, Hyam, Capocci and Wickham.
