Ipswich Town will discover their Carabao Cup second round opponents tonight. Here’s all you need to know about the draw.

Funny feeling

It seems strange for Blues fans to be looking forward to the second round draw. Town have exited the League Cup at the first hurdle to lower league opposition in five of the previous six seasons, but bucked that trend with an impressive 2-0 win at League Two side Luton Town on Tuesday night.

The last time they made round two was in 2015. David McGoldrick, James Alabi and Ryan Fraser all scored in extra-time to seal a 4-1 win at Doncaster and set-up a trip to Manchester United.

When’s the draw?

It will take place live on Sky Sports News following this evening’s televised tie between Bury and Sunderland. Should that game not go to extra-time, the draw should be underway around 10pm.

Who can the Blues face?

The seven Premier League teams competing in Europe (Chelsea, Tottenham, Manchester City, Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester United and Everton) have all received byes.

The top 25 teams, based on last season’s finish, will all be seeded. Town are not among those teams, so could face: Southampton, AFC Bournemouth, West Brom, West Ham, Leicester, Stoke, Crystal Palace, Swansea, Burnley, Watford, Hull, Middlesbrough, Newcastle, Brighton, Reading, Sheffield Wednesday, Huddersfield, Fulham, Norwich, Brentford, Cardiff City, Aston Villa or Leeds.

When will the second round take place?

Week commencing Monday, August 21. That will sit between two home Championship games for Town – Brentford (Aug 19) and Fulham (Aug 26).
