Ipswich Town manager Mick McCarthy has taken the unusual step of naming his side for Saturday’s trip to Bristol City - the Blues set to be unchanged for the Championship game at Ashton Gate.
That means Jonathan Douglas will continue in midfield alongside former City midfielder, Cole Skuse, while Luke Varney will continue in attack, at the expense of Freddie Sears, having scored his second goal of the season in last weekend’s 3-0 victory over QPR.
Striker Brett Pitman is back in training after 10 weeks out with an ankle injury, but McCarthy will not include him. The former Bristol City man is instead scheduled to play in an under-23s game on Monday.
“I’m not going to try and dress it up, Lee (Johnson, Bristol City manager) might be thinking of doing something (different), they played 3-5-2 in the under-23s, he has played with one striker up and one behind, he has played with (Marlon) Pack sitting, if you’re trying to find a formula, you do change things around.
“But if like, we did, last week you find a formula that works and works well, what’s the point in trying to dress it up. That’s the team, he knows what to expect
