Ipswich Town bowed out of the FA Youth Cup with a 3-1 extra-time defeat at Sunderland tonight.

The Blues broke the deadlock through Danish midfielder Victor Guldbrandsen’s 24th minute header, but Jordan Blinco levelled the match up on the half hour mark at The Stadium of Light.

Town’s Cemal Ramadan missed a golden chance to restore the lead just before the break and, after a goalless second half played amidst heavy snow, Luke Molyneux and Dan Pybus scored for the hosts early in extra-time.

There was still time for Town keeper Sam McDermid to save Ethan Robson’s penalty.

Sunderland, who defeated the Blues at the third round stage of the competition on penalties last year, face north east rivals Newcastle in the next round.

IPSWICH: McDermid, Emmanuel, Kenlock, Guldbrandsen, Fowler (Daly), Smith, McLoughlin, Benyu, Ramadan (Ford), Blanchfield (Dozzell), Patterson. Subs: Hayes, Ellis.
