Enough is enough for independent fans’ group, Ipswich Town 1st.

Falling season ticket sales at Portman Road, following a hike in prices for most age groups, are seemingly the straw that broke the camel’s back – the organisation being ‘reinvigorated’ after a period of time being dormant.

Having met last week, the group, which is seeking new members, will officially relaunch on July 5 – the aim being to get the club to –

Improve communication with supporters.

Review its season ticket pricing policy.

Paint a clearer picture of how the current leadership will bring success.

Reclaim its role as being an integral part of the community.

“Things got more difficult as a club during the last season, but our intention is not to talk about tactics and managerial decisions,” said chairman Alasdair Ross, whose group will be lobbying the club for a meeting in the close season.

“The big thing is season ticket sales coming home to roost and the lower numbers we have seen in the last two or three years.

“There are a lot of good things happening at the club and a lot of brilliant people work there, but they are being overshadowed by negativity and a lack of communication.”

He added: “Ipswich Town is an important part of the community and we want to see it reclaim that role.”

Having finished in their lowest league position for 58 years, Town face a 16th straight season in the Championship.

“I am concerned for the future of the club,” explained Mr Ross.

“From a selfish point-of-view, it does not really bother me about winning promotion but I feel for the younger supporters who have never experienced that.

“I feel the football club is in a bad way, but we are not an exception.”

A spokesman for Town said: “We always welcome communication from supporters and we meet regularly with members of the ITFC Supporters Club, both at events around the county and at fans forums held at Portman Road through the season.

“The Ipswich Town Independent Supporters Trust are represented at those fans forums and have direct access to senior staff at the club, including Ian Milne.”
