Ipswich Town fans have been paying tribute to former coach and boss Bobby Ferguson, who died yesterday at the age of 80.

Ferguson was Bobby Robson’s right hand man during the club’s glory years – winning the FA Cup in 1978 and UEFA Cup in 1981 – before taking over from Robson as boss between 1982-87.

News of his death was met with sorrow today, with the club flying flags at half mast at Portman Road and revealing plans for a minute’s applause and the players to wear black armbands in the Bank Holiday Monday match against Millwall.

Ferguson leaves his wife Ann, son Keith and daughter Kim, who works in the Bahamas but returned to Ipswich for his 80th birthday celebrations.
