Ipswich Town goalkeeper Bartosz Bialkowski came on as a half-time substitute as he made his international debut for Poland this evening.

The 30-year-old’s stunning form for the Blues over the last two years earned him a long-awaited first international call-up earlier this month, with the Blues stopper fulfilling a life-long dream when he came off the bench in Wroclaw.

Poland ultimately lost the friendly game 1-0 after Chelsea’s Victor Moses scored past Bialkowski from the penalty spot, following a foul by Stuttgart’s Marcin Kami?ski.

Bialkowski, who appears to be battling Roma’s Lukasz Skorupski for the final place in Poland’s World Cup squad for this summer’s tournament in Russia, will hope for further game time when his side face South Korea on Tuesday. He replaced Lukasz Fabianski in the Nigeria loss, leaving Skorupski and No.1 Wojciech Szczesny as the unused goalkeepers.

Speaking after the news of his call-up, Bialkowski insisted he had never given up on his dream of playing for his country.

“I’ve been patient and working so hard to get that call-up so to be in the Polish squad is like a dream come true,” he said.

“I’ve always been dreaming about it and finally I’m there, so I just have to keep doing what I’ve been doing and make sure it’s not just a one off and a longer period in the team.

“I always believed and was always working hard because it has always been my dream.

“But I also knew it would be hard because there are so many good Polish keepers, although I never stopped believing.”
