Ipswich Town full-back Josh Emmanuel has joined Shrewsbury on loan for the rest of the season.

Emmanuel, 21, was part of the Rotherham side which beat Shrewsbury, managed by Ipswich boss Paul Hurst, in last season’s League One play-off final but will now turn out for the Shropshire side.

He made a total of 38 appearances for the Millers and picked up the club’s young player of the year award.

But he has seen little action under new Ipswich boss Hurst and has not been included in a matchday squad prior to his departure.

As well as bringing Hurst to Portman Road, Ipswich have also signed Toto Nsiala and Jon Nolan from Shrewsbury this summer.

He has made a total of 24 appearances for Ipswich since making his debut on the opening day of the 2015/16 season, with his contract due to expire at the end of the season. The club have the option to extend his deal by a further year.

Shrewsbury boss John Askey said: “He was out on-loan with Rotherham last year and obviously had a good season with them, and was part of their promotion winning team.

“It was the one position where we haven’t got cover and obviously Josh provides us with that, and he’s shown he can do it at this level.

“He’s very athletic, strong, a good defender, but he can also get forward as well. We’re just trying to cover all basis and I think with this signing we do that.”
