Mick McCarthy has praised midfielder Jay Tabb’s selflessness and professionalism after confirming that the midfielder will be released in the summer.

The midfielder has played 85 times for the Blues having originally joined on loan from Reading in 2013, but hasn’t featured in the Championship for the Blues this season.

As expected, he will be released in the summer, but McCarthy praised the way Tabb has conducted himself over the last year.

“He’s been fabulous, he’s one who, without playing a game all season, could have won the ‘most selfless player award’ because he comes and trains every day. When he’s played in the cup games he’s played well, he trains well, he’s a prime example to any young player.

“He really is a fantastic character and hopefully I’ll see him tomorrow.”

Having already revealed that Josh Yorwerth and Piotr Malarczyk are available for transfer, McCarthy said he has yet to speak to the likes of Luke Varney and Larsen Toure, who are out of contract this summer.

Cameron Stewart, currently on loan at Doncaster, is another who is available for transfer.
