Today’s the day then - but what can we expect from Ipswich Town on transfer deadline day?
ARRIVALS
Well, a striker to replace the departed Daryl Murphy would seem to be top of the agenda, but yesterday boss Mick McCarthy told us that he wasn’t hopeful of bringing in a hitman today.
The Blues have previously been linked with Rotherham’s Danny Ward, Barnsley’s Marley Watkins and Preston’s Jordan Hugill, who scored against them on Saturday. Grimsby’s Omar Bogle and Southampton winger Lloyd Isgrove have also been mentioned.
Of course, Town have already made five signings - Jordan Spence, Steven Taylor (both free agents), Toumani Diagouraga (Leeds, loan), Danny Rowe (Macclesfield, £100k) and Kieffer Moore (Forest Green, £10k) – but none of them are likely to set pulses racing.
DEPARTURES
Under-fire midfielder Jonathan Douglas looks set for a move to League One strugglers Coventry City, in a deal which many Town fans would welcome.
Leon Best has also been linked with a departure after McCarthy said last week he wouldn’t play for the first team again.
Asked about that yesterday, the Blues’ boss said: “No, I doubt it. He’s got to have a little groin operation.”
And this morning, veteran defender and club captain Luke Chambers has been linked with a shock move back to former club Nottingham Forest.
But star midfielder Tom Lawrence, on loan from Leicester City, won’t be heading off - according to McCarthy!
