Ipswich Town have recruited physio Chris Skitt from Shrewsbury Town.

The 32-year-old, whose team were awarded the League One Members Award at the Football Medicine & Performance Association Awards in May, becomes reunited with Paul Hurst and Chris Doig at Portman Road.

He played an integral role in the ultra-fit Shrews finishing third in the second-tier last season.

Town had plenty of long-term injuries last season and owner Marcus Evans recently outlined his plans for a greater emphasis on sports science in order to try and combat this.

Admitting he leaves his hometown club with a ‘heavy heart’ after a 10-year association, Skitt told the Shropshire Star: “It’s an opportunity to go to a big, big club in a league one better than we’re in currently.

“It’s an opportunity to grow my career and test myself at the next level, see if my principles are robust enough to work at that next level.”

Town have already appointed sports science specialist Nathan Winder as their new fitness coach this summer following the departure of Andy Liddell. The 35-year-old previously worked under Paul Heckingbottom at both Barnsley and Leeds.
