Ipswich Town’s top scorer and Player of the Year, Daryl Murphy, has been named in the PFA Championship team of the season, by his fellow professionals from the division.

The 25-goal top scorer, enjoying the best season of his career, is partnered in attack by Watford talisman Troy Deeney, whose 21 goals have helped fire the Hornets to automatic promotion.

Murphy is the only Town player to feature in a line-up that includes at least one player from each of the current top eight sides, as well as Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper, Kieren Westwood.

Some Town fans may feel Christophe Berra was unlucky not to gain a position at the heart of the defence, those two roles going to Norwich City skipper Russell Martin and Derby County defender Richard Keogh.

Bournemouth’s Simon Francis occupies the right-back berth while Middlesbrough’s George Friend gets the nod at left-back.

Bournemouth are the only side to have two representatives in the end-of-season team, with Matt Ritchie filling one of the wing spots.

Brentford’s on-loan Tottenham midfielder Alex Pritchard is on the other flank, whilst the central positions are filled by Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Bakary Sako and Middlesbrough’s former Ipswich playmaker, Grant Leadbitter.

Former Town left-back Aaron Cresswell, now at West Ham, was named in last season’s team.
