Centre-back Christophe Berra’s reputation took a bit of hit at Wolves, following two successive relegations, but George Burley, who managed the 29-year-old for Hearts and Scotland, says the Edinburgh-born defender is now one of the best defenders in the Championship.
“He has improved and matured as a player and, this season and last, he has been outstanding,” added Burley.
“He has played on the right-hand side at times, despite being left-footed and he has impressed.
“It was unbelievable that Mick got him on a free transfer and Christophe has come on leaps and bounds since arriving at Ipswich.
“He is one of the best centre-backs in the division, he has had to work on certain aspects of his game, and I am sure he will be challenging for a regular spot in the Scotland team for their future games.”
