New Ipswich Town hero Joe Garner was pleased with how his fledgling partnership with Freddie Sears worked in Saturday’s 1-0 home win over Birmingham City.

Garner, who scored the winner, started the game in attack alongside fans’ favourite Sears, and the 29-year-old believes their understanding of each other can only get better.

“He is a top player at this level, he works his socks off, and never gives the opposition a minute,” Garner added.

“He was unlucky not to get on the end of one cross himself in the second half and we will build upon the partnership.”

Meanwhile, Birmingham boss Harry Redknapp was disappointed with his side’s defeat, the Midlands side having created the better chances before Garner’s goal.

“I wouldn’t have taken a draw at half-time,” said Redknapp.

“I thought if anyone was going to win it, it was going to be us and then we had the great chance to score in the second half.

“Within 10 seconds of that, the ball is in the back of our net and that changed everything.”
