After the club’s players report to the Playford Road training ground in the last week of June to be assessed for fitness after the summer break, where each player will take part in a bleep test, the Blues will spend a week at Carton House in County Kildare.

The trip will then finish with a game against Shelbourne at Tolka Park, kicking off at 3pm.

“We used to go to Carton House when I was at Wolves,” McCarthy told the club website.

“You always get a warm welcome there and the facilities are excellent. It’s a great set-up and ideal for pre-season.

“We have been there each year I have been manager here and the players have always enjoyed it.”

Town beat Shelbourne 6-0 in last season’s pre-season opener at Tolka Park.

The club will also visit Charlton Athletic as part of the build-up to the 2016/17 season, with the game at the Valley scheduled for Tuesday, July 26.
