IPSWICH Town manager Jim Magilton today looked at the Coca-Cola Championship table and said: “We are a long way from where we want to be.”

Magilton has led the Blues to an impressive sixth place on the back of a stunning set of home results with 33 points (and 36 goals) from the last 11 matches at Portman Road, seven of them this season.

But if Town fans think Magilton is satisfied with this they are mistaken.

“It is early days to get too excited about where we are in the table,” said Magilton.

“But we are improving, and if we maintain this momentum we will be okay.

“I am delighted with how the players have responded, but we are only half way there.

“We are still a long way from where we want to be.

“The next step is to reproduce our home form away from Portman Road.”

The ambitious Magilton is set to shortly receive financial backing to help satisfy his desire to bring Premier League football back to Portman Road.

Once the takeover from billionaire businessman Marcus Evans has been finalised, Magilton will be in line to have a share of £12million in additional share money added to his budget.

“I will set the same ideals if the takeover goes through,” added Magilton. “We have feelers out, but even with more financial clout it will only be the right type of player who will be coming in.

“We are moving in the right direction, and have found a nice blend at the top with how Bryan Klug, Steve Foley and myself work together.

“We are positive people, and the coaching side - and the medical side - are running well.”
